Shayne Ward tên đầy đủ là Shayne Thomas Ward, sinh ngày 16-10-1984 tại Clayton - Manchester, vương quốc Anh. Shayne Ward lớn lên trong một gia đình có bảy người con. Anh đã từng hát trong nhóm tam ca Destiny, với hai thành viên nữ là Tracy Murphy và Tracey Lyle. Thế nhưng tại thời điểm đó, Shayne Ward chỉ là một cái tên “vô danh”. Nhóm nhạc của anh chủ yếu biểu diễn tại các quán bar, câu lạc bộ và những bữa tiệc đám cưới. Cũng như bao thanh niên trẻ khác, Shayne vẫn ấp ủ ước mơ trở thành một ca sĩ nổi tiếng.



Đầu những năm 2000, cả thế giới nở rộ những cuộc thi tài năng trên truyền hình, The X Factor là một trong số đó. Tiền thân là xê ri truyền hình Pop Idol của nước Anh, The X Factor mang đến cơ hội cho những người trẻ tuổi thực hiện giấc mơ “from zero to hero” (từ bình thường trở thành nổi tiếng). Shayne Ward thử vận may với The X Factor năm 2005 và đã trở thành quán quân khi đánh bại ca sĩ Andy Abraham cùng với đôi song ca Journey South trong đêm chung kết được truyền hình trực tiếp trên kênh ITV1. Kể từ đây, cuộc đời của Shayne Ward chính thức mở ra một chương mới.



Ngày 21-12-2005, hãng Sony BMG tung ra đĩa đơn đầu tay của Shayne mang tên “That’s My Goal” - một bài hát anh đã diễn trong ngày đăng quang The X Factor. Ca khúc này giúp Shayne bước vào hàng ngũ những ca sĩ Anh có đĩa đơn bán chạy nhất. Chỉ trong vòng một tuần đầu tiên được phát hành, “That’s My Goal” đã tiêu thụ được 313.000 bản và trở thành đĩa đơn thứ tư trong các đĩa đơn bán chạy nhất trong tuần đầu tiên của mọi thời đại tại Anh. Single này chỉ xếp sau “Candle In The Wind” của Sir Elton John viết dành tặng cố công nương Diana (685.000 bản), “Anything Is Possible/Evergreen” của Will Young (403.000 bản) và “Unchained Melody” của Gareth Gates (335.000 bản). Sau đó single này trở thành ca khúc số một của mùa giáng sinh 2005 và đứng đầu trong bảng xếp hạng UK chart và Ireland chart.



Thành công của “That’s My Goal” mở đường cho Shayne Ward tiếp tục thực hiện single thứ hai “No Promises” và tung ra vào ngày 10-04-2006. “No Promises” được anh cover lại của ca sĩ Đan Mạch Bryan Rice. Bài hát này chính là bài hit suốt khoản thời gian từ mùa thu 2005 đến mùa xuân 2006 tại Đan Mạch. Shayne đả khéo léo biến ca khúc này từ một bản tình ca nhẹ nhàng, mượt mà trở thành một bài hát có giai điệu dance pop được ưa chuộng bởi giới trẻ. Tuy vậy “No Promises” chỉ đạt ví trí thứ 2 trên UK chart và có kết quả khá hơn ở Ái Nhĩ Lan với vị trí number one. Không thành công tại Anh, nhưng “No Promises” lại gây sốt tại các bảng xếp hạng châu Á như: Radio Airplay (Hàn Quốc), 105.5 Eazy FM (Thái Lan)... Ngay tại Việt Nam, vốn chưa có bảng xếp hạng chính thức cho nhạc nước ngoài thì ca khúc này cũng trở thành giai điệu được yêu thích của giới trẻ và phần nào làm các fan ở đây tạm quên đi những bản love song ngọt ngào của ban nhạc Westlife.


Ngay sau đó, album cùng tên của Shayne Ward được phát hành ngày 17-04-2006 và chiếm ngay vị trí số 1 với 201.266 bản được bán ra trong tuần đầu tiên. “Shayne Ward” cũng đạt danh hiệu bạch kim tại Anh khi doanh số tiêu thụ vượt hơn 450.000 bản. Nhưng single thứ ba “Stand By Me” - một bản ballad mượt mà - lại thất bại vì không đạt được vị trí cao như hai single đầu.



Đầu tháng 09-2006, Shayne Ward phải trải qua ca phẩu thuật tại Los Angeles khi được chẩn đoán có những khối u tại thanh quản - một căn bệnh khiến ca sĩ Julie Andrews phải giã từ sự nghiệp ca hát. Người quản lý của anh, Louis Walsh, sau đó thông báo anh đã trở lại bình thường. Tháng 11-2006, Shayne cho ra tự truyện của mình mang tên “My Story”.

Năm 2007, Shayne Ward đánh dấu sự trở lại bằng tour lưu diễn tại Anh và Ái Nhĩ Lan trong 28 ngày với 18 buổi diễn bắt đầu tại Dublin ngày 21-01-2007 và kết thúc ở Birmingham ngày 17-02-2007.
